In the Still Room

 When my SiStars Olivia, Rosie and I sent the invitation to join our Apothecary journey, we began preparing our own Still Rooms (mine usually has dragons - the better to heat potions!!)

Our invitation this week to the beloveds who said YES to making good medicine - begin considering Vessels to contain the elixirs. 

  • Look through magazine for images of vessels.

  • Paste them in your journal, and ask several what medicine they offer/ what they contain/ what's ready to be alchemized?

  • Look for obects which spark joy, and bring that to the page. 

  • Reflect on why this is the perfect moment in your life for this journey

  • Collect ephemera - tea bag fortunes, slips of paper, paper towels used as paint ‘rags,’ magazine images, flower petals - and slide into an envelope or bag to bring with you to class.

You might wish to start a lexicon page, adding symbols and the meaning they hold for You. I'm fond of making little cards from watercolor paper - these are about 2x2"

Work with image:

  • Take photos of and sketch containers you have around your home, and when you're out and about

  • Note elements they have in common, and in contrast (round of angular, size, shapes…) 

  • What might they contain?

Altered Board Book

One of the earliest projects in our  Color of Woman teacher training was the invitation to create simple art journals, setting our intention, using simple supplies and an inexpensive composition book as the container. These journals, called Cosmic Smash Books by an earlier graduate, Catt Geller, became companions for many of us on our quest, holding notes, inspiration, and process pages. Word of the Year

  For Several years, my friend Kathleen has offered a Word of the Year Playshop at our church in January. In 2023 my  word was Weave , and in 2024, Balance (Kauliki)  Kathleen generally offers a more linear approach - using Dictionaries and Thesauri, after a quick review and release of any 'baggage' from the year just past, and then we decorated an Arrow .... This year , she invited a friend who facilitates SoulCollage (tm) to join us, and we chose images! Both Kathleen and Deandra brought a bunch of images from magazines, cards and calendars, and laid them out on several tables,  for us to gather from.  Card size is general 5×7" or 5x8" and we could choose from several colours of mat board for our background . Roots and Wings

 The invitation to one of my early Red Thread Circle read: 'It is often said we need to give our children roots for grounding, and wings to give their visions and dreams flight!
