The invitation to one of my early Red Thread Circle read:
'It is often said we need to give our children roots for grounding, and wings to give their visions and dreams flight! Our creativity also thrives with roots and wings!Come explore what gives you stability, & vision into the dreams you'd like to give wings. We'll play with paint and paper and you'll leave with an altar piece to remind you of your own Roots & Wings.'

What do you - and your surroundings need to thrive? Where do you yern to spread your wings?
What bogs you down - old baggage, old stories that 'it's about time' you tossed? What leaves are ready to drop?

We drummed & rattled to connect with our roots, the things that give us stability.
Our images shared commonalities, trees, earth, sky, greenery. We played with acrylics, tempra, a leaf stencil, collage to create our images of well rooted trees, and words for both the stability, and the dreams we want to give wings. I used a brass bread to add a bird to my tree, and punched holes for hanging.
We shared chocolate, tea, stories. We remembered loved ones who have gone on, our friends & mentors, wise Reita & Lucita, grandparents, parents.

DeleteReally lovely trees. I especially love trees this time of year when the colours change. So lovely. Have a beautful weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt's a treat to see their leaves change!
DeleteVery nice art. Trees are some of my favorite to paint. What nourishes my roots? My children, grand children and great grand child. Sometimes it is difficult to know what leaves are read to drop, especially in these times of covid. I am 68 yrs old and my wings are a bit tattered but I know that they are not done yet. Right now I am looking for the light of a calm world, or at least in my little part of the world. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteYes, the next generations!! That nourishes me as well (I'm 70, no great Grands yet!)
DeleteSharing blessings where we are - enjoy yours as well!
Your sketches are pretty! And lovely, thoughtful words.

DeleteBeautiful trees. I love to get out there to see them.
ReplyDeleteThey are a community...I recently read that they will pass water to
their neighbour if the neighbour is in need. So cool!
Enjoy the weekend...
Isn't that awesome? I heard a piece on public radio about that - evene cross species! (We could learn a lot from them!)
